3 things to know about towing

Posted on: September 30th, 2011 by towingwriter

In event of a car breakdown or an accident, we seek towing assistance. In simple terms, it is the process of coupling the damaged vehicle with a tow truck or any other towing vehicle and thus pulling the now dysfunctional automobile, to a destination where it can be repaired. We often see vehicles being pulled or towed on streets and many of us have first hand experience, when it comes to getting our vehicles pulled by a tow truck. Often, during emergencies or situations where we find ourselves helpless, towing services really assist. Now if a service is this useful, it makes sense to get apprised with 3 important procedural details.

Types of Tow Trucks: Two types of tow trucks are primarily used for purposes of towing vehicles on road. The first is boom truck, which lifts the front of the vehicles and drags it all through the way. Other type of truck is the flatbed truck, which lifts the vehicle completely and carries it to the destination. Both are used and though flatbed is preferred, suitability varies with vehicle type.

Towing Safety: For the safety of your vehicle, it is important that you pay attention to the towing procedure. Crosscheck with towing personnel to ensure that safety chains are appropriately attached, electric plug is installed, hitch coupler is intact and other connections are securely in place.

Following the Trailer: If you are closely following your vehicle as it is being towed, just remember that tow vehicle and trailer will go in opposite directions.
