Posted on: October 28th, 2011 by towingwriter

If there is a road and there are vehicles commuting on the road, accidents, breakdowns and related vehicle damage chaos and thus the need to avail services of a towing company, is unavoidable. However, as you hire services of a towing company, you can either select any company or can spare a few minutes and hire somebody who is authorized to take on the diligent task of towing.

Checking validations is not only important from legal perspective, but ensuring that the towing company is licensed to undertake towing work, enhances possibilities of vehicle safety. Vehicle safety is a concern, because as you hand over your vehicle for towing, its safety is entirely in the hands of the driver and towing company. Little effort from your end, towards cross checking all authorizations, saves considerable pain.

Typically, there are two types of tow truck licenses. First is the regular license, which permits the tow trucks to tow vehicles, which they can tow. This implies that a truck with regular license can pull weights, which it can reasonably handle. Second, is the heavy tow truck license. A tow truck, which has this license, is authorized to pull vehicle with gross weight exceeding 4 tones. Here it is important to note that a towing license is issued to a tow truck and is attached with it. Till the time this license is cancelled, it is not subject to expiry. Trucks are also regularly inspected to ensure they are in good working condition.

Additionally, to tow, driver must also have the requisite licensing permissions. In fact, the type of vehicles which a driver can tow depends upon the license category.
